NELSON ADVANCEMENT SOCIETY

APPEAL TO THE CITIZENS

The Executive Committee of the Nelson Advancement- Society are making a, general appeal to all citizens, and a letter; is being sent to all householders, explaining the aims and objects of the Society. This week the Committee will commence an oTganised canvass of the city, and it is hoped that within a week or.two every Nelsonian will have done his or her share towards aiding the £unds of the Society, either by means of a donation or subscription. The following is a copy of the letter which is being circulated :

T«; all loyal Nelsonians, — A public meeting of Nelson citizens recently resolved that a Nelson Advancement Society be formed, for the purpose of assisting all movements for improving and beautifying the city, and attracting visitors and settlers to the city and district.

The chief proposals before the Society are. as follows:-

1> To impress on public bodies the necessity of carrying out urgent public works, and of placing the streets and sanitary matters in a - satisfactory condition ; also to stimulate a more' progressive spirit in municipal administration-.

To publish and distribute broadcast an; illustrated booklet describing Nelson, and to advertise the district in other ways. 3. To conduct an information bureau in Nelson and in "Wellington, in order to- 'supply visitors and others with fre" and . full information on all matters relating to the district. 4- To arrange a carnival to be held in Nelson next summer. -

In order to undertake these works a regular income is required, and therefore the Executive asks for your* generous financial support and hearty cooperation. The interest- and suppoTt- of every Nelsonian is absolutely .necessary if these much needed activities are to be carried on. Experienced visitors and much-travelled tourists have time and again testified, to the unrivalled scenic ..'and other assets which Nelson

possesses, and it is an undoubted fact that our" district has a greater variety of: magnificent resorts than are to _ be found elsewhere. \Y hile other districts are advertising and pushing ahead, .shall Nelson stand aside and. do' nothing? With- your loyal support- Nelson can -go forward and expand, and thus take the position which is its Tight. : The work of the 'Society will undoubtedly be of great advantage—both directly and - indirectly—to the whole citv, and "will thus benefit every citizen. To attract more visitors, to' attend to them, properly whilst- here, to -increase the population of the city and district, will add materially to the interests cf every section in the community. If we make Nelson more attractive to visitors, it will then be a beter place, fo'r its own, residents. For these reasons we respectfully ask you to subscribe to the funds of the Society as liberally as possible, and thus do your share towards improving our city and district, and making Nelson's advantages more widely known. , Donations and subscriptions should be sent to the office of the treasurer, Mr G. M. Rout, Trafalgar Street. Signed by the Executive on beliau erf. the General Commitee : G. M-.Rout, H. R. Duncan, W. W. Snodgrass. H. Atrnore, .M.P., W.' G: IMoffatt. Cecil King. F. W. Fairey, T. A.
