WIFE ASSAULTED BY DRUNKEN HUSBAND.

James Mills, a labourer who wan ed to cirink his Sunelay beer on a Saturday night, was charged bei'oie the magistrate with assaulting his wife with intent to do her actual beielily harm. On 18. h October last accused went home intoxicated. His wifa then went and bought his Sunday beer, .which. 011 returning, {•he hid. Accused, fueling dry wanted a. cirink but wr« refused. He reented this, anel pushed his wife. £he full and broke a leg. She'ithen crawled into the yard to get out of accused's way. She returned to the house when "her husband had gone to bed, and sat in the kitch.-n uitil he woke,'-and lifted her into bed. She remained there until Ihuivday. A reighbour called in a dot tor Hi the evening. when she was removed to the hospital. She eliel not know, that her leg was broken until the doctor came. The litter said the wife might never recover from -the ! effects of the ■ injury. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
