MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly ireeting of the Nelsor Hospital and Charitable Aid Board waheld, yesterday afternoon. Presentrr-. Messrs H. (chairman), P. Hag } gins, : W. N. Bell was excused. • On the motion of the Chairman, thf Board expressed sympathy with Mi Hoult (one of its members) on the deatt of his son. ' . Accounts were for paymen* amounting to —Hospital '£325 13s lid : charitable aid £347 14s 2d. . The Board then discussed matters connected with the erection of a new hospital (reported elsewhere). ~ ■ The Board adjourned at S p.m. until 7.30 p.m., when all the members were present, with the exception of Messrs Allan and. Franklyn. i REPORTS. The report of the master of the, Alexandra Home dealt with, several -minor iratters connected with, the: institution. Co-mplaint was made of the poor quality of coal being supplied. The report of the Relieving Officer was read and discussed. It was resolved. to* discontinue rent allowance to a family receiving aid. The -report of the Health Inspector dealt with several cases of infectious disease reported during the month in vari-. ous parts of the district. He had disinfected, the premises concerned. . He also , reported on several other matters requiring attention. • Constable Fitzsimmons reported, on several cases in his district.. A correspondence^^; , - •.'ssbsS, Arising out °f correspondence, ; It was resolved to procure an ice chest for the Hospital at a cost not exceeding £5. • . ' • The secretary Permanent Building Society wrote that his directors, were, willing; view ,of -tne gift o'f Mr Caw thron, to accept on fixed deposit for; a term of 3, 6 or 12 months, any sum up to £SOOO at 4 per cent.—Received. , It was resolved, to pay an account of £3 9s to Dr. Deck for; performing an urgent operation on a child in the counr try.' . The Board declined, to entertain ar application at present for an increased allowance to a country resident. HOSPITAL RETURNS. > The Hospital returns laid on the table showed 96 patients on the list, 49 of whom were admitted during the month. Of the former 19 were cured, 9were relieved, and 3 died, leaving 65 inmates in the institution at the end of the mo-nth. Ten patients are in the -consurrptive annexe. GENERAL". On the motion of .the Chairman the question of a- cottage hospital at Takaka was deferred for a month. The acceptance of tenders was lett to the Town Committee. ■ _ Minor business was transacted, and the Board rose at 10 p.m.
