FIRES
MOTOR GARAGE DESTROYED. (Press Associaiion.—Copteight.) SYDNEY, Jan. 7. • By a fire at Robinson Brothers' motor garage at Kempsey, six cars were damaged, and the structure, was almost destroyed. ■ The damage is estimated at £4OOO. Five of the were insured in the South British office, and one in the New Zealand office. OUTBREAK AT A PICTURE SHOWGISBORNE, Jan. 7. As a picture performance was about to commence at the Opera House •tonight, a- fire broke out in the operating box, and two programmes of pictures; totalling 13,000 feet of 'film were stroyed, while the new projecting ,Machine; was somewhat damaged,. and all the fittings .of the box destroyed; The. theatre, which is a fine modern- structure, is quite fireproof, and the outbreak, though fierce, was confined to tfta box. The audience, though aware of the fire, remained calm,""and after, thp fire had been subdued the : orchestra played the National Anthem as a signal that the entertainment had been abandoned.
