TROTTER MURDER CASE
THOMPSON AND HIS FINGER PRINTS. (Press Association. —Copyright.} MELBOURNE, Feb. 18. The trial of Harold Thompson on a charge of the murder of Arthur Trotter has commenced. The Crown Prosecutor, in opening the case, stated that a most remarkable development has occurred. Thompson's index finger within the very recent oast had been interfered with, and by some process of manipulation the ridges of the finger had been altered. This he regarded as an indication that accused desired to evade the weight of evidence created by the similarity of the finger prints found in Trotter's house and the impression cf Thompson's finger taken by the police. ' The evidence given was similar to that at the inquest.
