The "Neue Freie Presse's" Constantinople correspondent reports that Chukri Pasha sent the following wireless message when he heard it was contemplated to neutralise Adrianople : "I would sooner sacrifice my last man than surrender one of the strongest fortresses in the world. If further resistance proves useless I shall take care to put 40,000 Bulgarians living here out of the way. A sharp engagement occurred at Bulair, where the Bulgarians drove the Turks back to the forts.
