ALLEGED "CORNER" IN RIDES

At a Chamber of Commerce meeting; to-day a. complaint was received fromthe Auckland Tanneries Employees' Union as to the American methods of allegedly "cornering" best hides in Now Zealand, and suggesting that steps should be taken to prevent this, otherwise the leather industry in New Zealand must suffer injury. Mr Mabin, president, denied the existence of any "corner." It- war mmply a question -of supply and demand, and New Zealand-was getting the benefit. They could not'prevent a. grower selling . in the best market.'\
It was decided to - reply that the Chamber did not consider the union made out a ca6c in st/pporb, of its allegations. '
