WAIHI AFFAIRS
DEMONSTRATIONS RENEWEI> AND DUELLED BY POLICE.
(Uhitsd r&iss Association.)
WAIHI, This Day. The silent tactics of the unemployed | and their-womenfolk towards the work- I era was verv short-lived. The strain of j silence was* too great;, and the crowd j once more found voice when the day shift came off yesterday afternoon, and again'.when the workers went on this morning. On each occasion they were "boohed" and yelled at with great vigour in the outskirts of the town. The police took a firm stand, and in different localities the crowds in the vicinity of the workers' homes were dispersed, mounted and foot police effectuaUv breaking up the demonstrations. Commissioner Cullen arrived here -by last night's express. It is understood from the management of the Wtihi mine that only about 60 more miners are requirea at the mine, this vear.- Probably these will be available "during the next fortnight.
