HOSPITAL CHARGES
MORE CARE URGED. Mr. Allan made a strong protest at last night's meeting of the Hospital and Charitalble Aid Board with reference to admitting pati-ents to ith<i Hospital without enquiries as to itlieir financial stand ing. He knew one mail: in the dislrU-t •'who was able to buy two or three hospitals," who came to Nelson and into the institution for 15s a weak. The Trail referred to had not applied to his member for admittance, but had come to Nelson and obtained a ticket from another member. The administration -which _ a! lowed a man, to perpetrate such a thing on the Board was wrong, declared Mr, Allan. He had received .-ipecial treatment, and was able to pay five guineas a week. '"People .practised that-sort .cif thing o'n us, .and we ought to adopt some means iby which it can be prevented," continued the speaker. The Chairman said applicants for admittance 'to the Hospital should go to the member for the district in which £,' hey lived. Mr. Field said that absurdly highrates were put down cn the tickets by jOir<e members. If a fee was put -down within a man's means he would try to pay it. No action was taken.
