SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES

THE MAIN ITEMS. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, This (Day. The Supplementary Estimates were brought ttown *Ly Governor's Message in the House at 9 o'clock last night. The chief features are as under : Tile sum of £297 is voted to Mrs M. • E. Parker in respect of an accident causing the death of her husband whilst' discharging his duties as a, telegraph linesman. The sum of £250 is voted as a contribution towards the cost of the law library for judges at Wellington, and: £SOO is put forward as a grant to the Solici-tor-<Jeneral to cover the expenses of his visit to England in connection witn the Webster claims. In the department of Internal Affairs the Under-Secretary, who received £550 a year, receives an increase of £650. The Chief Clerk goes up from £3lO to £335, and the Accountaiiu from £290 to £3OO. > ' . The Government -Statistician, £365, gets an increase of £2O, and the' Clerk and Deputy-Registrar has liis salary raised from to £350. The Registrar of Births at Wellington has his salary raised from £275 to £335. The Director of the Dominion Museumreceives an increase of £25 a year. The sum of £6OO is set down for print- ' ing the report and evidence of the Education Commission, . and ..the item- '-as annuity to Lady Steward for services rendered by her late husband, .Sir Win. The Secretary of Education's salary, of £625 is increased by £25,. and a similar rise is given,,s6 the assistant Inspector-General-, who goes up from. £575 to £6OO. The Inspector of Factories -at Nelson has had his salary raised from £220 to £235, and the clerk from £IOO to £llO.
