Wolsey's Tower, which stands on the! grounds of Esher Place, the residence of Sir Edgar Vinceilt at Esher, in Surrey, and which derives its name from the fact that Cardinal Wolsey after his disgrace retired there, is to be repaired at the request and cost of Sir Edward Vincent by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Monuments. During recent excavations made on part of the site of the old house the foundations were discovered of a long, narrow building running from the right of the tower towards the River Mole, and ft is thought that this was a bachelor's lodging. At one end of .this building some fragments of jugs, glass;wine bottles, and pewter spoons, all of the seventeenth century, were found.
