THE REGENT CAUCUSES.
GOVERNMENT AND OPPOSITION. NO LEADER. ELECTED BY LIBERALS. The members of the Government Partv held their first meeting after the House of Representatives adjourned on. Wednesday afternoon, s.ay6 the "Post." .Members heartily congratulated the Prime Minister on the honour that had been conferred on him. and expressed their loyalty "to the Leader and the Ministers "he had selected. ' The new Opposition also held a caucus. All the members who voted with the Hon. T. Mackenzie on Saturday's Noconfidence motion were present except the four Labour members, Mr Davey (Christchurch. East, who declined to attend.), and Mr Craigie .(Timaru, who was accounted for). The following resolution was carried unanimously: "That the party gratefully recognises the most valuable services rendered 'by its leader (the hon. T. Mackenzie), and also records its appreciation of the ability, zeal, and disnity he has shown since Jus acceptance of the leadership and .espeial--iy durhi"- the recent political crisis. The selection of a .Leader of the Opposition was deferred. i * THE MEMBER FOR NELSON. "NOT QUITE SO SURE." In adding bis congratulations to the new Ministry. Mr Atmorc. according to the "Dominion." snid that he was not quite s<> sure that the country was to be ''congratulated. He bitterly attacked those Liberals who, he said, had put out the late Government. Mr Pavne (loudly) : Hear ! hear ! Mr Atmorc. in conclusion, expressed his intention of supporting the new Government if they would bring down Liberal measures. He particularly referred to legislation for closer land settlement.
