Mr G. R. Selby, who recently resigned the post of secretary to tho Town Schools Committee, was accorded a vote of thanks and appreciation of services at last night's meeting of that body. Corporal P. Herbert, late of tho Bengal Horse Artillery, who served under Brigndier-General Sir Harry Lawrence 'at Lucknow in 1857, is a resident of Tauranga. He is the only veteran in the Auckland district who served in the entrenched camp at Cawnpoie, under Geuoral Sir M. H. Wheeler, beforo the Indian mutiny.
