FURTHER FINES INFLICTED

AUCKLAND. April. 19. .Further betting raid cases were dealt, with to-day. The hearing of the charges against John Ryan, that •being; the occupier of a. billiaVd room in Vulcan Lane, he recojved moneys as bets and kept premises for purposes of betting, was continued. After .lengthy argument-, and evidence, the said he had decided to convict. "The amount of fine was not to be taken as showing that Ryan, was less guilty, than the others, but he was making allowance for Ryan's poorer circumstances and for "the fact that he would suffer verv serious loss through th- almost certain loss of his billiard, license. A fine of .££o and costs was inflicted. On a charge of keeping a. gaming house, and on a charge of making bets, Evan was convicted and orderedto come up for sentence when called upon. Four persons for 'being found on the, premises were fined £1 each. Fred Williams and Charles Parcy, two reputed bookmakers, who pleaded guilty, were fined £25 each with costs.
