FARMERS' FILD DAY.

COMPETITIONS AT BRIGHTWATER.. Everything favoured a successful day at Brighiwater yesterday, when the competitions in coimectioii with the Farmers' Field Day were held in Me.-srs .Max and bti.J's pronertus. '1 lie attendance numbered between CUU antl 6CO, including a fair number of people ironi town besides representatives from most of the country districts. The entries were large, and the various events were got off with commendable promptness. The Committee, headed by Mr G. S.l-c.-ek junr.. the hon. secretary, had worked h-rd to ensure the success of the fathering, and they should be well satisfied with the result of the day's proceedings Chief interest centred in the dog trial's, for which between 20 and 30 dons competed. Taken on the whole, the work done bv the animals was good, though in the" first event, in no instance were the sheep yarded. -Mr E. Christian s "Rae" won both events, m addition to Mr H. D. Paten's special for dog under oest command in the .hunt away event. In the ploughing matches, considering the nature of the ground, the competitors did well J. W. Ching being particularly prominent in the prize list. The events resulted as folows :
