The death has occurred of Mr John Macalister, formerly one of tho best known members of the bar in Invercar gill. Ho died at his residence, West Plains, of heart failure. The deceased was 54 years of age.

Mr J. W. Tibbs, headmaster of tho Auckland Grammar School, has boon reelected Auckland University College graduates' representative to the University Senate. Hon. J. A. Tolo was also re-elected a member of tho Senato to represent Auckland.

The Rev. H. B. Burnett, whose death, at the age of seventy-four, occurred in Auckland on Monday, was sent to New Zealand in 1873 by the Irish Presbyterian Church, and was at one time Stationed at Johnsonville. He was Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for one term.
