CITY VALUATION.
THE City Valuer, Mr F. C. Pettit, lias now completed his valuation of the city. Last year the business portion received attention, and this year tho residential area has been dealt with. Tn round figures there has been an increase in valuations from £79,438 in 1910 to £93,959 to-day. The fact that the new valuations, with tho exception of one small alteration of £5, have not been reduced by appeals to the Assessment Court, is certainly creditable. We may not hold with everything Mr Pettit has done; but the general result can hardly be considered as being anything but satisfactory to the city. The duties of Valuer are by no means of a pleasant nature when increases are deemed to be justified ; but Mr Pettit seems to have gone straight ahead with his work, and a good result for the city has been obtained.
