WEDDING.

TAINE—MARTIN. Considerable interest was taken in Ta hunanui yesterday morning (the 9th inst.), when the first wedding- he;d m fcjt. Stephen's Anglican Church, eventuated. The contracting parties were Miss Martin, late of Maidstone, Kent, who has been Matron in charge of St. Andrew's Orphanage, Nelson, for gome time, and Mr H. E. Taine, farmer, of Wakatu, and youngest son of Mr Taine._ Wellington's nonagenarian, who arrived at Port Nioholfon in the early forties. The ch'zrch, which was beautifully decorated for the Easter services, was filled, and a special drag conveyed the children from the Nelson Orphanage to the scene. The ceremony was semi-choral, the congregation joining in heartily. Amongst the valuable presents given to the happy pair was a handsomely bound Bible given- by the Committee and members of St. Stephen's Church (it being customary to present a Bible to the first! v-ouple married in a church). After the usual speeches, etc., at the reception held later, Mr and Mrs Taine caught the early boat for the North. CO.WLES—KERSLAKE. A pretty wedding was solemnised by the Rev. Mr Askew, on (Monday afternoon at St. Mark's Church, Wellington, which was beautifully decorated by the sirl friends of the bride. Miss "Daisy Kerslake, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. J. Kerslake, of Brougham-street, Wellington, was married to Mr Stephen G. Cowles, fourth son of Mr Edward Cowles, Richmond. The bride, says the "Post," was dressed in a gown of white Duchesse satin, trimmed with handeome silk lace, witfi a beautifullv embroidered veil and wreath of orange blossoms. She was attended by three bridesmaids, Misses Vera Morah, Lucy Cla-ter, ami Eila Kerslake (cousins). The bridegrooms's brother, Mr Jack Cowles, «ras best man, and Messrs Lawrence and- Kerslake (the brother of the bride) w-ere groomsmen. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride's mother. The presents were numerous land handsome, including presentations from Messrs Dalgety and Co. and the Star Boating Club to the bridegroom, who has been a member of the club for yeare.
