SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE.
ITS OBJECTS
A meeting of those interested in the formation of a branch of the Sports Protection .League will be held at the Masonic Hall social room on Wednesday evening next. The Mayor (Mr T.*A. IT. Field) will preside. Mr A. A. Paape, Secretary of the League, willaddress the meeting on -the aims and aspirations of the- organisation. He has just completed a successful tour in Canterbury, where several branches have been formed. After the Nelson visit Mr Paape will visit Takaka, Rockville, and the West Coast, and later "on a meeting will be held at Picton. It is the intention of the League to form branches in every town of the Dominion, and already 18 branches have been established in the principal towns. The objects for which the League is formed are : —To influence public opinion, without regard to party politics, in the interests of sport, so as to enable the people to amuse themselves in future without molestation. 'To promote any alterations of law that may be necessary for the better protection of sports and pastimes. To take tip and defend any actions that the council may consider important as test cases. To discourage all malpractices in connection with sport, and to raise, its tone wherever it is considered necessary. Generally to do whatever may from time to time seem advisable to extend the facilities for every honestly conducted sport, exercise, and amusement. At the meeting to be held on Wednesday evening the general secretary will deal 1 ully with the aims, aspirations, and policy of the Lfcague.
