The recent advance in prices is due to the rapid decrease in the f visible supply, through large European consumption. The sheep skin sales are postponed indefinitely, owing to the strike. At the rabbit skin sales 2579 bales were catalogued. There was a strong demand. Australian fair to good are a jd dearer, and common and inferior Id, occasionally 2d. At the Addington live stock markrt there were large entries of stock, and the i atendance was larger than usual. Good I classes or store lambs and ewes sold at , late rates, but inferior descriptions were ; easier. Fat lambi, were down abont Is per head. Fat prime wethers sold at good prices, but other classes of fat sheep were easier. Fat cattle showed no change in value, and fat pigs showed a | decline in prices all round. Store pig 3 . and store and dairy cattle sold well. | There was a slight reduction in the ; number of store sheep offered, the bulk . of the offerings again being ewes, the balance being principally lambs of a!I ; classes, and a few pens of wethers , Among the ewes were some good station | lines, most of which were in nice condi- i tion. Two-tooth ewes made 15s 6d to 17s 6d; 4-tooth 14s 6d to 15s sd; 4, 6, and 8-tooth oversea sheep, 14s; good lines of locally bred", 15s 6d to 16s; fresh mouth, 14s to 15s 6d ; sound mouth, lis to .13s; aged, 8s to 9s 6d ; best rape lambs, 12s. 6d to 13s 4d ; medium, .8s 6d to lis 3d; culls, 5s to 6s 6d; forward wethers, to 15s; others, lis 6d to 12s. - There were 6018 fat lambs, or about GOO more than the previous week. In- I eluded in the entry were several large prime lines from the northern district, and the quality as a whole was an im?rovement upon last week's yardin<j. 'here was not quite such keen competition on the part of some of the export buyers, and the prices all round were about Is per head lower. The basis upon which export buyers were operating was 5d per lb. up to 421bs weight, and 4Jd per lb for overweight' and secondary quality. /There were 5250 taken for export. a verage of prices was:— Tags, 16s to 17s lid; and ordinary weights, lis;10d to 15s lOd. There was a large yarding of fat sheep, including some good lines of wethersThere was good competition at firm rates for. wei.hers, but all other classes were easier, medium, and inferior ewes being down about la per head. The range of prices was;— Prime wethers, 17s to 19s 8d; others" 13s lOd to 16s 6d; prime ewes, 13s to 16s lid; others, 8s to 12s 6d. The supply of beef 198 head, or 20 less than last week. The quality was good, especially that .of the heifer's. There was an irregular demand, but on the whole prices showed little or no change, the average being equal to 24s to Its per 100 lbs. Steers made £8 10s to £l2 ss; heifers, £5 7s 6d to £8 17s 6d; and cows, £5 15s to £B. Veal calves sold at 45.6 dto £3, and up to £3 18s for extra large, the entry being 1 a small one. A small yarding of store cattle sold well, yearlings making 31s; 15 to 18 months, £3 13s to £3 17s 6d ; two-year steers, £4 15s ; 2 year heifers, £3 17s 6d ; and dry cows, 25s to £4 7s 6d. Dairj* cows sold at £4 10s to £9 10s; and extra to £lO 15s. There was a moderate entry of fat pigs , of varied quality, and there was an easier tone in the market, prices being undpr those of late sales. Choppers made 65s to £5 15s; large baconers, 60s to 70s, extra to 80s; smaller, 50s to 57s 6d, equal to sid to sjJd per lb; large porkers, 42s 6d to 47s 6d ; smaller, 35s to 40s, equal to 6d per lb. Stores of all desenption sold under keen competition, large sorts making 40s to 45s ; medium, 30s to 38s ; small, 18s to 28s, and baconers, 12s 6d to 14s 6d.
