MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. J. S. Evans, S.M.) FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 1912. The following eases were dealt with at the Magistrate's Court this morning : RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS. For riding bicycles without lights on Feb-\uary 22. the following residents were fined 10s. with 7s co<ts :—W illiam Frost, Henry Stevenson, Douglas Eyles and Robert House. The Alag.strate hinted that the fines in these eases wou.d be increased in future. RIDING ON FOOTPATHS. For riding on the Trafalgar-street footpath. a. fine of 10s. with 7s ctsts. was imposed on Thomas .Jtntiens, Hi; ward Edwards, Frank Stallard, and Staniey Cunningham. ALLEGED ASSAULT. Edward Worthing Uon proceeded against Robert Pauling for alleged assault by striking him on the face with his open hand. After plaintiff had given evidence leadup to the proceedings, and the defendant had been ask<=d whether lie had anything to say, it was discovered that the wrong man had been summoned. John Pauling (father of defendant) Ehould have been proceeded against. In the circumstances the Magistrate dismissed the case, allowing 8s witness's expenses against plaintiff. MAINTENANCE CASE. Maginnity and Son (Mr. Houlker) v. Win. R«es (Wellington) claim for arrears under maintenance order. When the case was proceeding it was learnt that the defendant had paid into the Clerk of the Court at Nelson a greater sum than that sued for. Mr Houlker explained that- his firm had no knowledge of such from defendant s solicitor (Mr. Wilford). The case was dismissed. REFUSAL TO QUIT HOTEL. the Mauistrate's Court yesterday, before -Mr J S. Evans, S.M,, Arthur Scwman was. convicted and discharged for drunkenness. For icfusing to quit the licensed premises of the Panama Hotel. when requested to do so, the *ame defendant was convicted and fined ±-i.
