To-day saw the most interesting exhibition of shooting at Trentham during the present meeting, and rarely there been a better display of tftarksmanship on the ground. \\ eather and men were at their best. Early in the day a baffling mirage spoiled the shooting to some extent, but later on, barring a few spasmodic gusts, the conditions were almost perfect. Atkinson (Auckland) pnt up the highest score in the Trentham aggregate of 2io, beating Elliott by one point, but by omitting to enter for* the Trentham. aggregate match loses the first prize '<>t' £t> and tho Carbine Cup. ✓ The Otago ma'ich, 800 yards, was the first of the lc/lg r»i\ge events in the championship, and the character of the work put jin by the riflemen needs 110 further description than to say that there «rere no fewer than seven pos siblcjf, which led to the equal division of the. first seven prizes; that there were several all buts, and a multitude of 48's and 47*s were connted out. Among those securing all buts, in addition to those in the prize list attached, were Burns (Kariri), Rois (Bluff), Munro (Murihiku). The Nelson match, of two stages, 800 and 900 yards, showed a continuance of good shooting. At 800 yards Falknor (Wellington), X. Willoughby (Petone), Lovneday (W oodville), and Marshall (Karon) made possibles. Lane made a possible at 900, but with only 37- at 800 he was out of the prize list. Marshall broke np at 900 yards, and he also was ont of it. W. Cox (Auckland) and So per (Napier) each got 49, and there were many other good scores. The Hawke's Bay and Taranaki matches will.b'e fired to-morrow, these being the last of the championship series save the King's Prize, in which the 50 highest ajmrecates will fire off at 3.30 on Thursday. Cawood (Apiti) each £3. 49 each ; Neilson (Danneyirke) £3. 48. The Taranaki match, 10 shots at 1000 yards, and the final for the first of the Championship, produced some excellent scores. Roots, of Kaponga, the Hiampion of 1911, got- the possible; Wood (Christchurch) 49; Host, 47; S. Loveday (the leader in the aggregate), got 40, making his aggregate 459. Atkinson got 36, which discounted his chance. Roots wins the Taranaki match with the possible, "Wood being second.
