THE WAIRAU BRIDGE.
DRIVINC THE FIRST PILE. (United Press Association.) BLENHEIM, This Day. The ceremony of driving the first pile in the bridge over the Wairau river, near Renwiektown, on the Blenheim-Nelson main road, was performed yesterday in the presence of a--large and representative gathering. Mr R. McCallum, member for the district, performed the ceremony in the unavoidable absence of the Minister for Public Works. The length of the bridge,is 742 yards, and the contract price is £10,934. "Half the cost is bomp bv the Government, and half by local bodies.
