BELGIAN MINERS' DEMANDS. (Received 8.25 a.m.) BRUSSELS, Monday The Miners' Federation demand an allround advance. THE BRISBANE STRIKE. NO VICTIMISATION.

BRISBANE, Monday. The strikers' committee has again written to the Employers' Federation asking for farther assurance that there will be no victimisation in the event of the committee- ondering all workers back. The federation replied that it had nothing to add to its previous assurance. It disclaimed an v intention to victimise or permit victimisation of any persons.now «mployed. DOUBLE PAY TO LOYAL WORKERS. (Received 9.15 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. A further attempt has been made to the carters to leave work, but the men declined. The whole of the tramway services have been restored. The loyal workers have' been granted double pay as from the beginning of the strike to last Saturday. INTER-STATE STEAMER SERVICE RESUMED. SYDNEY WHARF LABOURERS

WHEAT SHIPS HELD UP. SYDNEY. Monday. Wharf labourers engaged in loading wheat ships at Darling Island sprang a surprise when the German steamer Schlesien arrived from Brisbane at the end of the week with a load of wheat The wharf labourers declined to work her because a portion of the cargo had been loaded in Queensland by free labour. To-day the crew started to put the wheat aboard, when immediately all the labourers engaged in loading otner ships at th e Island knocked off, rendering idle a large number of other hands. Altogether about 1000 men arc- out. Five vessels are affected, and 500 trucks ot wheat are waiting to be unloaded. At a meeting"" later in. the day the wharf labourers decided to resume m the morning, excepting on the Schlesien and the Prince Waldemar. The latter is blocked because she utilised her crew for coaling. PAINTERS AND DOCKERS TAKE A HAND. (Received 9.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day, Tli e Prinz Waldemar, one of the German vessels designated "black" by unionists, discharged her cargo from Brisbane with, her own crew. It was intended to dock her at Sydney, .but the painters and dockers notified that they would not touch her. A BRISBANE ENVOY TO SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Monday. The president of the Brisbane Waterside Workers' Union arrived on Saturday. It is understood that his action was connected with mutual action of the Brisbane and Sydney waterside men. but he was recalled on Sunday. The reasons for his recall are not stated. A FIVE-DAY WTSEK EXPERIMENT. ABANDONED FOR HEALTH REASONS. SYDNEY. Yesterday. On the application of the Boot Trade Employees' Association, the Industrial Court varied the award from five days of nine and threequarter hours to six dav.s, Saturday's hours being fixed at four and a-quarter. The Association is of opinion that a five days' week is against the best interests of the members on health grounds. SETTLEMENT OF A LONG-STAND-ING DISPUTE. (Received 9.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Newcastle Colliery Conciliation Board has effected a settlement of the Shortland colliery strike, which has been in existence for a year, by fixing the rates for shooting and filling. The men and the proprietors held several conferences, but were unable to agree. The men now resume work. A SURPRISE MOVE. (Received 10.5 a.m.) HOBART, This Day. A number of Mount Lyell employees declined to work on Thursday, owing to a fatal accident <m Wednesday. When they reported on Monday they were told that they would nave to sign on as new employees and await notification when they would be -required, Several of the men stated their intention to leave the district.
