ALLEGED CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—"Prevention of Cruelty, etc." I would like to ask any member of this Society where "cruelty" is supposed to begin '( I saw a milkman yesterday (Sunday) morning, about 10 o'clock, drive up Col-ling\vood-6t at a great rate. On he w«nt, and when he arrived at the hill, which is fairly steep, I saw him whip up tho horse repeatedly, without slackening in the least degree, until he turned into Brougham-street, and I lost sight of the fellow. Is this "cruel"? Or, rather, "Is it not an unnatural and unreasonable treat- ■ ment of a willing and indispensable servant. I am, etc., HQMO.
