AT.HOMS AND BENGHAZI
A CHECK TO THE SLAVE TRADE ST A RTLING DISCLOSURES. (Received Oct. 21. 10.30 a.m.) ROME. Friday. The Italians bombarded Horn*, on the Tripoli- coast, destroying the barracks before the Turks raised the white flag. The Italians landed at Benghazi, and although meeting with strenuous opposition, captured t-ho barracks by assault after they had twice ibombarded the town. The opposition was due to the natives resenting the Italian occupation stopping the slave traffic, which was largely centred in Benghazi. Father Ajppolino, head of the Benghazi Mission, states that young negroes were forced into slavery. Araibs conducted the trade from Wadai, in the Soudan, ■with the connivance of the authorities He further states that the Sul'tan of Wadai' was the greatest sLave. dealer, and made' armed expeditions. Children in slave caravans were packed in two and threes in bags, while adults were chained | together.. Shocking cruelties are allegi ed, 1/
