SUBURBAN KORTH. (From a Correspondent'..) FAREWELL TO A SCHOOL TEACHER. ■ Clifton Terrace Schoolroom ("Waka-i)in:-:a) last evening was the scene of a cowded and very pleasant assemblage, the occasion being a district gathering or "social," to bid faieweil to Miss Bolton, the very able, efficient, and popular teacher whom we have had in our midst lor a period of some 19. years. During the whole of this time the Clifton Terrace School has kept np a splendid xecord, always ranking among the "best" in the Neison district. And in many "unofficial" ways Miss Bolton has made herself extremely popular during her long residence in Wakapuaka; the children's picnics, social gatherings, and evening parties of various kinds, which have become suite an institution in our midst, bearing constant testimony to the kindly interest which she ever felt in those around her. One special object of the gathering last evening- was to take the opportunity of making a farewell and appre-

dative presentation to Miss BoltoHj which took the form of a very .pretty gold watch, with "pin" (in the form of a true lover's knot), subscribed for by the "old pupils" and residents of the district (this fact being inscribed, with the recipient's name, inside the cover of the watch). The presentation was made by Mr Arthur Small, to whom 1 his pleasant task fell as the oldest ex-pupil present. Mr Small performed his duty in a very happy and easy manner (spiced with a few reminiscences of his own school days), and Miss Bolton having suitably and feelingly replied, three hearty cheers were given by all present for our departing- teacher and friend, whom we are all truly sorry to be losing, and for whom we'all most heartily join in wishing all happiness and prosperity i n h C r new sphere of work. For our loss is to be Dovedale's gain.

Speeches were made bv Mr. George Dodson., as representing" heads of the families in the district, and M.r. Ocrder, a member of the School Committee, warmly corn-men dins Miss Bolton's work ajid social exccl-eiu.es.
