SPORTS AT TRAFALGAR PARK.

■A BIG CROWD. All Nelson was out yesterday afternoon and "celebrated'' at Tra_ falgar Park. 'The Park, it may be said, had made a wonderful recovery. The previous afternoon it was a lake of water, and it seemed hopeless to expect that the ground would be dry enough to enable the original -programme to be carried out. -Soon after lunch people began to wend their way to the Park, and at 3 o'clock there roust have been an attendance of at least 6000. (Each child was presented with a ~ag- of lollies, a bag of biscuits, and an orange, and the older children also received a bottle of lemonade. The number of children present probably was close on 2000, yet all had a share in the good thinigs going. Again. Mr H. Saunders and Mr A. Oldershaw are to be thanked for the preparations tbey had made in regard to the children. These two citizens shouldered a big burden, but they proved themiSPlves equal to the occasion. School championship races. ! a display by Boy Scont-s. football, and hockey matches, formed the afternoon's programme, were plaved by the Garrison, and Citizens'' Bands. ALL SCHOOLS RUNNING CHAM. PIQNSHTP. There were Targe fields in the three distances run for the all schools championship. The winner was Warwick Stephenson, who broke -tire tape in the three distances. iStephenson takes the championship and a gold) modal valued at 30s, and his win entitles th'e Central School (of which he is a pupil) to hold the handsome Hogg P. Matthews, of the Convent School, ran three seconds, and he too "jets a medal. P. Bennett, of Mnrchison. was third in the aseregate, and he also receives a medal.

BOY SCOUTS DISPLAY. Boy Scouts to the number of about 50. gave an interesting display. They "were under Commissioner Iloulker, and Scoutmasters Em-mott and Mills. The programme included ambulance bandaging and carrying, bridgebuilding, timber waggon work, tug-of-war, tent pitching and spar and bolster fighting, the last-named item ■causing roars of laughter. The playing ground was rather on the soft side for hockey, but notwithstanding this, there were some ,g;-od games and interesting play. The winners of the tournament were the Wai-Mai team, who were warmly cheered on their victor v, Wai—-Mai (1) v. FodeVa-1 (0). An evenly contested game, Wai-Mai winning by one goal, shot by Whitweil, to nil. Nelson A (2) v. -Stoke (0). Nelson, put up 2 g.als t-o nil. Hurst scored in the first spell and Boyes in the second. Richmond (1) v. Nelson B (0). After playing eight minutes overtime Holland scored for Richmond. Wai-Mai (1) v. Richmond (0). The semi-final between Wai-Mai and Richmond was w:n by the former by one goal to nil. The play was very even, and the honour of the winning -shot fell to Jackson. Wai-Mai (2) v. Nelson A (1). Tb? final was between .Wai-Mai and Nelson A. Smart folic wing up enabled Brodie to score for Nelson. Immediately afterwards Wai-ivia-i rushed play to the Nelson circle, Jackson scoring.- The second score, which wen the 'tournament, was by Whitweil, who ended up a good dribble by finding the net.
