THEFT OF A MOTOR CAR.
(United Press Association.) CIIRISTCHURCH, Monday. At the Magistrates Court this, morning three absconders from Burnham Industrial School, Robert Meac!em (18), Edwin Agnew (17), and Samuel Ross (17), were charged with the theft of a motor car valued at £550, the property of Dr Browne. All pleaded guilty to the charge of absconding. The police stated that Meaclem •absconded twice after being- transferred to Burnham from ga-01. and that Agnew, who had been at St. Mary's. Auckland, and the Nelson Industrial School, was a frequent absconder. The Magistrate said that lads of this stamp ought not to be sent back to industrial schools. He considered that each should be sent for twelve months to a reformatory for treatment. bu.t in view of the motor car charge he would postpone sentence. Accused were remanded on the charge of theft.
