Lyon, aged GO years, one of Wellington's best known cit Lzens, met his death in a tragic manner this afternoon. He had been attending the races at Trentlvam, and Wt the course to return to '• 'ie city by an early train. Mr Lyon was erosing the line to reach 1 *u- platform on fhe other and, being short-sighted, did not En'.'ci' train approaching. He was strvc-V by tlie incoming train, and literally cut to pieces. His body was only recovered b} r raising tlve carriages by the use of ,ia<jfvS. It was then found to : be horribly mutilated, .showing that death must have bee n instantaneous. Deceased wa s for many years secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, in which capacity lie was widely known. He was five years'secretary of th'e Wellington Harbour Board. For the last few years, until his retirement from the position recently, Mr Lyons tt-a s secretary of rho Fm? Underwriters' Asociation. DEATH OF A TRAVELLER. A COLLAPSE AT SEA. INVERCARGILL. Wednesday. A steerage passenger by the Warrimoo, named A. Rush, who joined'the steamer at Hobart, was- found on arrivalat the Bluff to be in a jetate of collapse. He had taken no food on the voyage, and was too far gone to give an account of..himself. Before hc could be 'jrouglit to the hospital he -died. A YOUNG MAN MISSING. SUICIDE INDICATED. WHANGAREI. Thursday. On Monday night- a man named Norman Kiells, aged 26, of Hikurangi, left a note in his bedroom stating that lie had gone t-o see a doctor, that lie was very ill, and would be back as soon as possible. Kiells had not returned yesterday, and a further search disclose:! a note, saying: "My lif-s; has not i a success in this world, and I.liope for a better time in the- next. Good-bye everyI body.
