ROADS AND BRIDGES VOTES. (United Paess Association.) . Tuesday. A good deal of business was transacted by the Cabinet to-'day, the, total authorisations "under different headings being .-—Roads £14,600; railways £i672 ; bridges £4550. Among the road-.votes authorised 'the most. j/mportant were;. £IOO for the Pangarba-Waiahe "road; £I3OO On a'£l for £1 subsidy ; for the Pukekawa: road,; Raglan; £7so:for the. Jisborne-Tblogoa Bay -road; £ISOO for-, various rbad§ to open up blocks in the Stratford district.' Under the heading of railways, there was an authorisation of £752 for the Midland railway, and authorisations totalling £BSOO. on the Kaiwaka, Bickerstaff, and lOtamate section of the North of Auckland' line. It was decided to call for tenders for the "big. hill" tunnel ; oh the XrawrehceRoxburgh railway, arid for workers', cottages and -huts on the Kawakawa-Gra-hamstown railway route. Tenders are also to be invited for the Moka river bridge at Kp.huwera road. On account (if the new buildings at the Hermitage, Mt. Cook, there was an authorisation of £6OO. The erection of a "new chapel and workshop at the Invercargill gaol was approved. The installation of an experimental plant at the Thames School of Mines at a cost of £275 was authorised. It was decided to call for tenders for cartage work for the State Coal Department in Wellington for a period of twelve months.
