THE CHRISTMAS VACATION.

STOKE AND TAHUNIA. SCHOOLS

Tlio annual concert and prize-giving in connection with the Strike and Tahuaa schools was held last night, the fnotion being successful and attracting a very large audience. The children, under the headmaster and Mis s Rogers, had received careful training for some time past, and in a number of pieces, such as club drill, fan drill, and stocking- drill, they acquitted themselves remarkably well. Tha Chairman of the Education Board, Mr. Mjaginnity, "presided, and Mr. Lock; a* member of the Boaird, also was present.

Mr. Maginnity, prior to presenting the prizes, gave a short, but appropriate address, complimenting the children and teachers on the enteuitajriiment submitted. He wished tlia-em a happy Christmas and trusted that the school would continue to prosper. Mr. Maginnity was specially thanked by the Chairman of the Committee for presiding-

Lock, a-fteir congratulating the Comr. :iiitte on the large attendance at the meeting and the continued efficiency c! tlhe school- entertained the audience for ten minutes with, selections of American humour. At the close of the proceedings Mr. A lip rt thanked the teachers and seho'ors for providing such an excellent elite', tainmenit and Sir. Lock for his assistance.

THE ZEPHYR LODGE SCHOOL. The prize-giving in connection with. Miss Hooper's Zephyr Lodge School was held at the Diocesan Library on Thursday afternoon, when the pupils took part in acting a scene from Robin Hood, and the afternoon wasi filled in. with recitations, marching, rounds, pianoforte solos, part songs, etc., the w'hole comprising a most interesting program: me. The "get up" of the children who acted ill "Robin Hood ' was muc'i admired by all, and thanks are due t<> the parents who provided the costumes. Notwithstanding the rain, the feats were well filled, and after refreshments the prizes were kindly distributed bv Mrs Mules.

Tl-s honour of having highest marks in iho school fell to- Philip Vining, Margaret Andrew coming second. M-.-s Mules said a few words, and in closing, hoped that all would spend a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. She thought the children all knev: t'he words of that little hymn, "Jesus Bids us Shine," arid asked them to 1-peat it. She hoped they would keep those words before them, and try to "shine" in the coming year.

M:=s Flett. kindly acted as accompanist, and also gave a much appreciated solo on the violin.
