A DISEASED COW OFFERED FOR SALE.
AN EXEMPLARY FINE,
A heavy fine was to-day imposed bv Mr J. S. Evans, S.M.. in a case in which an information had been laid for exposing for sale, a cow affected with tuberculosis. The defendant was Edward Rosser. of Takaka. who it was alleged had offered the affected cow for sale at Messrs Eisley Bros.' yards at Richmond.. The defendant did not appear, but he forwarded a letter in which he said that he did not know the cow was diseased.

His Worship considered that it was a very serious matter to offer for sale an animal in the condition set forth. There was grave danger to human life, in the distribution of milkfrom a cow in such a state. In the public interests he must impose a substantial penaltv, and the defendant would be fined £7 with costs 7s.
