LABOUR IN POLITICS.
THE OSiBORXE JUDGMENT. [Phess Association —Coi-iriqht.] LONDON. Thursday. The "Daily Xews, - ' discussing the Osborne decision, says the most experienced trade union officials are • i:c:nviiiiC-ed that voluntary contribu:ions -.voud be useles.. A branch of c hundred members recently adopted - voluntary levy, and the following woelt only two" j_>aid. The irony of the ■ position lies in rhe fact that La>bour having based itself oii independence of Jjiiberali-m and Toryism, is now ' obliged to ajjpeal to one or the other for reform. Meanwhile Labour is nui eh em harassed in the municipalities, and Parliamentary candidates reduced to a minimum. (It will be remembered that the Osborne .judgment was fully dealt with in a lead'ing article of Monday last.) A COSTLY DISPUTE. THE EIGHT HOURS' SYSTEM. (Received Au.g. 19, 5.40 a.m.) LONDON, Thursday. The recent dispute over the eight hours' question has cost tire Northumberland Miners' Association I £53,000.
