MEETING OF PROTEST.

' WAIHI. This Day. A mass meeting of burgesses was held !a*t evening, protesting against certain recommendations of the Silt Commission.
The Mayor presided, and several resolutions were carried. The chief ob.ee'ious were that the redistribution of gold duty and the main road question were not referred to a Commission, .and that those who produced gold duty were better entitled to it than the farmers ; that the borough balance-sheet was misquoted regarding rates collected and sub---.dios received :' mat the gold duty already pledged the Government in respect of the waterworks loan : that unfair comments would be made regarding local rating ; and that clause 5 regarding the scope of the Commission had been altered. It was resolved to get up a petition and pro-em to Pariianii nt. All the resolutions will be forwarded, to the Premier. Minister of .Minos, and the member for the district.
