•THE SOUTH AFRICAN GUARANTEE. AN UNSAVOURY CONTROVERSY. [Pbess Association —Copxbight.] LONDON, Tuesday. : ,Tlve "Morning Po=t" say s the South African team controversy was somewhat unsavoury. The demand for a financial guarantee was quite unexpected, and the expenses must ■have been calculated on a liberal scale when £SOOO was required for a three to four months' trip. The refusal to guarantee caused less surprise, but it was somewhat unpleasant to hear that one reason was a fear that when the money was safe •the visiting team might be weakened by the withdrawal of prominent •players.
