WELCOME AT DUNEDIN. rCNiTED Press Association.] DUN ED IX, Wednesday. The Governor, Lord Islington, paid an official visit to Dunedin to-day. On the arrival of the train, his Excellency was welcomed by the Mayor and Councillors, and was then driven to the Town Hall via High-street and Princess-street. A largo number of spectators lined the route traversed and heartily cheered the Governor. On arrival at the Town Hall Lord Islington was officially welcomed by the Mayor and an address of welcome was presented to him. In the course of his reply. Lord Islington said that he had visited many portions of the Empire, and while this Dominion presented itself to him as one of the most highly favoured by nature, it was also most interesting to him as an observer of political and industrial developments. He found on all hands a vigorous and energetic population who were successfully realising by their own efforts the high ideals that so keenly actuated their ancestors. LnJ. Islington also paid a tribute to the work done by the University of Otago. The Governor's party I.Mr. J. A. Millar, Minister in ate-ndance. and the Mayor and Councillors) then adjourned ti. the Mayor's room, where the Governor's health was drunk. In responding to the toast. Lord Islington said that Lady Islington would arrive in New Zealand in about ten days, and he would convey to her the message from the eiti zona of Dunedin. He intended to

spend as much time a s possible ui the South Island, though necessarily the North Island would claim the major portion. He would be pleased to spend some time in Dunedin if accommodation could be found for him. He wa.- pleased to recognise the manner in which the hospital and humanitarian work \va> coped with in Dunedin.
