M., and Warden for the Nelson Di.-triet. reports on the mining industry in she Nelson portion of tile Karauica mining district for the vcar ended 31 t Dci-Mibcr, 1900. :, s fallows: "Nelson.— T have been in charge of this district since May, I!>fiP. and fr.-rn thaf time up to the present no miniiic applications or suits of any kind have been heard or determined in the Nelson Warden's Court, and no mining operations arc being carried on in the vicinity of Nelson, Motueka. and Takaka. X'o mining applications or suit? have been heard in these Courts, and T know of no mining in the neighbourhood. '('ollingwood.—ln this Court very little mining busir.<?s s has been disposed of. and thv main part of what has been dealt with consists of renewa's or surrenders. a nd applications for reduction of men. The Aorere ■Sluicing Company took over the property of the Slate River Company (in liquidation), and ha s done a considerable amount of repairing. Tr commenced sluicing with six men towards the end of last year, with satisfactory results. The Paranara Hydraulic Sluicing and Mining Company has employed eleven men during the vear working three shifts, with satisfactory returns. The ground has proved to be payable, and the outldok of the company is promising. The Golden Block- mine ha s carried on its miningoperations during th e year with satis"factory results, and lias paid a fair amount in dividends.
