AN ENGLISHMAN FINED AND imprisoned:

Payne, an English student at Freiberg, in Saxony, was sentenced to four months' imprisonment and fined 850 marks for fighting a duel and resisting arrest. The affair originated over a quarrel in a cafe with a lieutenant in the army, who drew his sword, on which Payne struck him, and a duel followed. The lieutenant was cashiered.
