A RAILWAY STRIKE AVERTED
COAL MINERS' WAGES
DEMAND FOR AN INCREASE,
(Rec. March 14, 11.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sunday,
Mutual concessions have averted the strike on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad.
. Lewis, president of the united mine workers of North America, threatens to call a strike affecting hard and soft coal unless an increase of wages be granted. This is interpreted that he desires to expedite the present negotiations to raise wages to the scale enjoyed by workers in the bituminous branch of the industry in Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia.
