THE PLUNKET SHIELD. AUCKLAND VERSUS OTAGO. [United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Satur. The Pkinket Shield cricket match between Auckland and Otago cricket representatives was resumed in fine weather this morning. About four o"clock in/the afternoon a shower passed over, 'but it did not affect the play. There was a large attendance over 4000 people being present. Tho Auckland team, with 3SI runs for 0 wickets, continued batting solid!;-, and when the innings closed they had established two new records for New Zealand interprovincial cricket. The total score of 579 runs was made, vie largest known while three eeuturits were scored during the innings, and thus set a new precedent. Sale, who was 64 not out, increased his total to 121. The tail batted strongly, the eigthth wicket adding 80 and the tenth 48 runs. A good inninigs whs played by Mason and Anthony Otago faced an apparently hopeless task, and at the call of time had lost 4* wickets for 104 runs— Sicdeberg (38) and Eckhold (31) being the principal scorers.
