NELSON EDUCATION INSTITUTE.
THE TEACHERS' PROMOTION SCHEME. A meeting of the members of the Institute was held at the Girls' School yesterday afternoon, when the chief business taken was the consideration of the | amendments made by the Inspectors in the promotion scheme, which had beensent to the Board by the Institute. -..- The only . alteration to which serious exception was taken was the new clause 8, which. provides that if a teacher does not accept any vacancy which is offered to him, he shall forfeit all chance of promotion for 12 months.
It was the unanimous opinion of the teachers that this claus_. would entail great hardship in many cases, without securing any advantage whatever for either teachers or Education .Board. .
It was reported that several teachers' already had replied. ... to 7 the? In'-; spectors' circular and .expressed approval of the scheme without :having r notwed the objectionable nature of this clause; but it was suggested . that such teachers might write again and withdraw their unconditional assent. •.--...
It was finally resolved that the Board should be asked to amend clause 8, and that teachers should be recommended to express their approval of the scheme and their v; Ulingness to bo brought under its provisions, but only on condition that clause 8 is deleted or suitably amended.
