TOWN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. ■' The monthly meeting' of the Town School Commission was field last even- . ing. Present: The Bey. J. H. MacKenzie (Chairman), Eev. P. Kempthorne, Messrs Bray;. Moffatt, Nock, and Vercoe. ■ ''■'," - A surplus of £25 being available in -connection with the Girls' Central bcnool; it was resolved to ask the Board to allow the Committee to spend the amount on certain improvements at the school. On the motion of Mr- Vercoe, it was resolved to ask the Board to supply the Committee monthly with a list of 'the absent scholars . from- the. -private schools, with a view of enforcing the penal clauses of the Education- Act. A circular from the .Department in reference to providing a miniature rifle range for school cadets, was referred to Mr Gibbs, the headmaster of the , Boys' School, for an opinion. .•.".» The schools returns snowed the attendance for the past month to beGirls' School, on r011. 633, average attendance 577.7, percentage 91.7; Boys' ' School, on roll 535, average attendance 497.3 percentage. 93.6. Aa invitation • was forwarded'~to the Committee to be present on the occasion of the unveiling of the honours board at the Girls' School on a nearly, date when addresses will.be given by the Chairman of the Board (Mr A T ' Magmmty) and the Chairman of the Committee (Rev. J. H. MacKenzie). A parent wrote complaining of the manner i nwhich the girls were treated on the occasion of the recent Board dinner at the Technical School.— The Uiairman said he thought the girls had tneir dinner at the school.— Messrs- Vercoe Bray, and Nock stated that they had been- sooken to about 'the < matter, and that thcro was some indignation ■ felt m r?trar<l to the.-girls having ho dinner, and being driven out into tha It was resolved to forward the letter to the Board.
