A visit of Howlers from Australia seems to be assured this season. Tha Sydney "Referee" says >-"New Zealand is to— by hook or by crook— be paid that |long^iromised visit! some time during, the coming .12.month.Sj possibly about January; but nothing definite has yet been decided beyond that if no Austra Jim i team goes New South Wales, will do her best to raise the requirements and send over as much of the flower of ' her bowling as she can get togetherr-^per-naps five rinks— and they, will be no pickmcking team either. They are to be individually and collectively J impressed with the importance of gathering up those ashes and bringing them back again." As the New South Welshmen are sending a team to Melbourne for Cup Week, to. Tasmania at Christmas, and to South Australia at Easter, while a team is at present visiting Queensland, it will be seen that those elected can have plenty of junketting. A medical man who appeared ab the Christchurch Court charged with cycling on the footpath pleaded that he had a very urgent case to attend to, and the rdad was very muddy dn the locality. The Magistrate (Mr W. E. Haselien), remarked that he could not accqpt these 'excuses, fyr if the footy path were going to be used by cyclists there would be no room for pedestrians. He would therefore have to inflict a fine of 5s and costs. A respectable looking individual called to see a dentist the other day in the Rue Hermel (says the Paris correspondent of the "Daily Express"). He was shown into the waiting-room, and told that Dr Papon would see him in a few. minutes. The dentist was attending another case, but glancing through the open door he caught sight of the man removing various silver ornaments about, the ' room and conveying them to his pockets. He was' about to' leave the; room when the dentist requested him to come in and be seated. His teeth appeared to be in excellent condition, but Dr Papon informed him that to avert serious consequences he would have to undergo a painful ordeal for which he must take gas. The patient was much distressed, but without more ado Dr Papon administered a powerful narcotic and then sent for the police. The man was removed, and woke up in a couple of hours in his prison cell.
