WOOL, HOPS, AND BUTTER FIRM. WELLINGTON, Monday. The High Commissioner cables, dated London, 18th:— The jnutton market is firm, and supplies are decreasing. There is an endeavour amongst holders to raise the price of mutton in anticipation of small shipments. Canterbury, 3%d North Island, 3i/4d; River' Plate, 3%d. t The lamb market is weak, and stocksare heavy, selling at the present price of mutton. Canterbury, 3%d;; North Island, 3%d. The oeef maTket is quiet, with fair local demand.; New Zealand hinds, 3%' d; fores, 2%d. The buter market is very firm forbest quality, and advancing steadily.The "Grocer" newspaper advisesthat forward purchase should be : avoided at the present state of themarket. Prices of New Zealand l)utter to-day are 118s, ex Turakina;Australian, 114s; Danish, 11345; Siberian, 106s. The cheese market is dull, with small demand, "buyers holding back expecting prices to go lower. New Zealand is quoted at 58s; Canadian, 5Ts. The hemp market is steady, and no transactions of importance are re-" -•ortcd. New Zealand good fair grade on spot, £26; fair on spot, £25; fair current Manira on spot, £25; OctoberDecember shipments of Now Zea!and ( good fair, .€24 15s; fair, £24 15s. The Manila output is 20,000 bales. The wool market is very fimi ,and. thore is general confidence in the maintenance of present price 3 for some time, and an advanse generally is expected. The top market is very firm, and supplies will be short.
