's of Aus- ' ' tralia and New Zealand, who is at present on a visit to New Zealand, was accorded a civic reception this ■ morning. He was subsequently; entertained at luncheon by the V.M.C.A. In the course of a speech Mr Virgo I referred to the present position' in re- ' gard to the next building for the local association." Not long ago the YJtf.C_A. raised £14,000 for the new building of which £3000 had been spent in tlie purchase 0* 9. sitej leaving £11,000 available for building and equipment. ' In order to carry out original intentions the association requires £7000 more. Mr Virgo then mentioned that a cablegram had recently been received from Mr P. R. Sargood, offering to guarantee £1000, giving five y.ears to collect, provided over £4000 ia- raised in addition. Another gentleman who gave £1000 during the first campaign ■aid that, lie would give another £1000Another gentleman who had given £500 to -the first campaign said, "Put me down for anothor £500," Then a ■ lady offered £200, and thuH naariy £3000 Tvas already in sight.
