Muir, a railway ganger at Horsham, performed a deed of heroism while in charge of a ballast train. Going round a curve he saw a little child standing on the line on which another train trayel- > ling 20 miles an hour was approaching. When the engine of the advancing train was within 50 yards of the child Muir jumped from his train and managed, to pick up the child and reach safety before the passenger^ train jiassed over the spot.
