EICHMOND. I A Richmond oonc. ; ipon(leut writes: — ilr F B Lawrence, who has b-.cn recently appointed by the Richmond Methodist Circuit to minister .in the ' upper part of the district, was enter, tamed on Tuesday and Wednesday evening last by the residents of Stan, ley Brook and Tapawera respectively . One of the pleasing features of ;hese social fune.tions -was the heartineiis I with which representative gatherings united to welcome the advent of a j minister into tho district Dr. Hudson ' who took the chair at the Tapawera social stated that ever since coining , into the place he had felt that they < ought to have a resident clergyman, i and expressed the pleasure he felt in welcoming Mr Lawrence as the representative of the Methodist Church Mr Fugle, who presided at Stanley Brook ah'o heartily welcomed -<ir Lawrence to that part of the word. Li was pointed out by the Rev. S. H. D, Perryman who gave a short .\d. dress on each occasion, that the ap. pointment had been made in uo spirit of antagonism to any other denomination represented there already; but because it was impossible to minister adequately to the people of a district situated fo far up as this was from Richmond. Mr Lawrence made feel, ing replies to the addresses of welcoTn 1 tendered to him, and said that he already felt at home. He also thanked those who had so kindly arranged for these social functions Mr Lawrence's charge will include Motupiko Tapa. wera Staney Brook, Tadmor Kiwi, Mann Sherry River and Wangapoka Excellent programmes, con-nsting of •nusical items ami recitations, were provided at both socials.
