LAW SUIT AFTER A FATALITY.
£1000 DAMAGES SOUGHT. [United Pbbss Asbooiatios.] TIMARU, Friday. A civil suit was begun in the Supreme Court, G. Selbie suing J. and C. Shaw and J. A. Manchester, separately and jointly for £1000 damages for the loss of his daughter, aged 38 years, who was killed in a street accident at the last Timaru agricultural show. Three solicitors appeared for the plaintiff and two each for the defendant parties,. Mr Solomon, K.C., leading for Mr Selbie, and Mr Stringer, K.C., for Mr Shawi Mr Raymond appeared for Mr Manches. tsr. Briefly the circumstances for the ' plaintiff were that Mr Selbie and his ' daughter was driving slowly out of ( town, in the middle of the road, when ' young Shaw, who was driving a fast trotting stallion, came down a steep grade, and meeting them at a fast pace the trotter swerved and brought the vehicles into collision and interlocking the wheels. Both the Selbies were thrown out, and as Miss Selbie was getting up Mr Manchester's car came along and knocked her down. She died • from her injuries the next day. The ' plaintiff claimed that Shaw was negligent in driving too fast, and Manchester in not pulling up, as he had plenty of time to soe an accident had happened.
