MR. GULLY'S RESIGNATION. APPRECIATION OF HIS SER VICES. Cr. Hampson, at the nleetuig of .tht City Council last evening, moved, according to notice, that the by-law relating t-o the appointment of officials be suspended to allow of the Finance Committee's recommendation as to the appointment of Town Clerk being given effect to. Cr. Grace seconded, and the motion was carried. The Finance Committee's report was os follows: — The Cpimmittee recommends to th< Council that Mr Edmonds, Assistant Town Clerk, be appointed Town Clerl and City Treasurer (vice Mr Gully, re signed) at a salary of £300, to' tak< otH.-e en tho 30th April, and that th( by-lay re advertising be suspendf<( ; that Mr Hesseltine be appointed acting fliii-l' clerk, temporarily, at a salary ol £160; that the ."alary" of Mr Mills b< ir. leased to £t_o per annum from tht l:-t April, and that the following re£oInt ion b* plpice.i upon ths minutes with itt>ren.'? to Mr Gully';, re-ignat.cn :— "That this Council places upon re-i-'.i-'.l it-; .ipprep.intion of the services of Mr 11. V. Gully tvs Town Clerk and City Treasurer for the period of 34 years, and, while regretting that the city must lose his valuable services, this Council wishes him long life and every success in his new undertaking." Hampspon. fscennded by Cr Grace, ft was decided that the valedictory resolution be illuminated, engrossed, and presented to Mr Gully as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by the Council.
